Introducing the New Submission Experience

Coming in October 2026, a new claims submission experience in 340B ESP will provide greater visibility into your claims data before submission, making it easier to understand what was uploaded, what will be submitted, and what may require additional review.

The new experience introduces the Submission Summary, Submission Data, and Original Files views, giving you new ways to review submission totals, understand which rows are available for submission, identify Validation Alerts, and examine your claims data in greater detail before submitting.

Submission Summary

The Submission Summary becomes available after you have started a submission and attached a claims file. It provides a high-level overview of the claims data identified across all files attached to the submission, including key submission totals, rows available for submission, and any Validation Alerts.

Once files are attached, the Submission Summary provides an overview of the submission, including:

  • Original Rows – Total number of rows uploaded across all attached files.

  • Selected Rows – Rows selected for processing with valid NDCs.

  • Rows for Submission – Selected rows with no column mapping errors.

  • Entities – Number of unique 340B IDs identified in the submission.

  • Manufacturers – Number of manufacturers represented in the submission.

  • NDCs – Number of unique NDCs represented in the submission.

The totals displayed in the Submission Summary are calculated across all files attached to the submission. Compare Original Rows, Selected Rows, and Rows for Submission to understand how your uploaded data moves through pre-submission processing: Original Rows represents everything uploaded, Selected Rows represents rows selected based on valid NDCs, and Rows for Submission represents the rows ultimately available for submission after column mapping checks.

Use the Rows for Submission total to confirm how many rows across your attached files are currently available for submission.

If these totals differ, review the Files section and Original File view to identify rows that were not selected or require additional attention.

Files

The Files section provides additional details for each attached file, including selected rows, rows for submission, and any Validation Alerts identified during pre-submission validation checks.

Each attached file is assigned a validation status to help you understand whether its data is ready for submission:

  • Good – No validation alerts are identified, NDCs are valid, and the column mapping is accurate.

  • Validation Alert – One or more issues have been identified that may require additional review.

  • No Rows for Submission – No claim rows are available for submission from the file.

Learn: Validation Alerts identify formatting, required-field, or other data issues within individual rows. You can investigate Validation Alerts by selecting Alerts to review the affected data or by downloading the Validation Alerts Row file, which lists all rows containing alerts. For more details on pre-submission validation, see New Submission Experience: File States.

Entities

The Entities section provides a list of covered entities, organized by 340B ID, identified within the submitted files.

For each entity, you can review a breakdown of associated claims by manufacturer, NDC, and volume, making it easier to quickly assess submission activity at the entity level.

Submission Data

The Submission Data tab displays the claims data across all files attached to the submission. Use this view to review the data that will be submitted and narrow the results using the available filters.

Available filters include:

  • Manufacturer – View claims associated with a specific manufacturer.

  • View As – Choose how claim data is displayed:

    • De-identified Data – Masks identifying information, including the Rx number.

    • Raw Data – Displays the data as it appears in the attached file.

  • Entities – Filter claims by 340B ID.

  • Files – View claims across all attached files or select a specific file.

By default, rows containing Validation Alerts are not displayed in the Submission Data tab. If including a file containing Validation Alerts, turn on Show Alert Rows to include rows with Validation Alerts within the results currently selected by your filters.

Use the Submission Data tab to review the claims included in the submission, compare data across manufacturers, entities, or files, and investigate Validation Alerts before submitting. The Inspect tool provides an additional way to examine individual field values and review claim data in greater detail.

Inspect tool

The Inspect tool allows you to review detailed field-level information for individual claims directly within the Submission Data tab. Select any cell in the claims table to open the Inspect tool and view the data associated with that field.

Use the Inspect tool to examine individual field values, investigate Validation Alerts, and better understand the information included in your submission without navigating away from the claims table.

Original Files

The Original Files displays the data from each attached source file, including rows that may not be included in the submission. Unlike the Submission Data tab, which provides a consolidated view of claims data across attached files, Original Files preserves the source-file view and uses color coding to show how individual rows and cells are being treated.

Color coding helps explain why data is or is not included in the submission:

  • Blue – Indicates data that is Selected for submission and successfully Mapped to the appropriate 340B ESP field.

  • Light Blue – Indicates data that is Selected for submission because the NDC is eligible, but has not been mapped.

  • White – Indicates data that is Unselected because the NDC is not eligible for submission.

  • Orange – Indicates a Validation Alert. These rows contain a data format issue that must be corrected, otherwise the row will excluded from the submission.

Use the Original Files to understand which rows are selected for submission, review mapping status, identify rows excluded based on NDC eligibility, and investigate the specific cells associated with Validation Alerts.

If you identify errors or Validation Alerts that need to be corrected, return to your local source file to make the necessary updates. Once corrected, attach the updated file to your submission, so 340B ESP can validate the corrected data.

Submitting your claims

When you are ready to submit your claims, select Save and Submit to review your submission.

The Review and Submit screen summarizes key information about your submission, including the number of attached files, covered entities, manufacturers, and rows available for submission. Before confirming, you can also download a copy of the Submission Data that will be processed and, when applicable, the Validation Alert Rows that will be excluded from the submission.

Submission Data export file

Download the Submission Data to review the claims that will be included in the submission. This file includes the ESP ID assigned to each claim, which can be used to identify and track the claim in 340B ESP after submission.

The ESP ID is a unique identifier assigned to each claim during submission. Because claims data in 340B ESP is de-identified, the ESP ID can be used to link claims in 340B ESP back to the corresponding claims in your local records.

Keeping a copy of the Submission Data provides a record of these IDs for future reference across Claims Data Reports and submitted claims records.

Validation Alert Rows export file

Download the Validation Alert Rows to review rows that will not be included in the submission due to identified validation issues. Use this file to identify the affected data, make the necessary corrections in your local source file, and include the corrected rows in a future submission.

When you are ready to proceed, select Confirm & Submit. Your claims will be processed and you will be directed to the Submission Receipt, where you can review the results of your submission, including Conforming and Non-Conforming claims and any associated issues or warnings.

Submission Receipt

After your claims are submitted, 340B ESP displays a Submission Receipt with an immediate summary of the claims processed and their validation results. Use the receipt to review overall submission metrics, Conforming and Non-Conforming claims, identified issues and warnings, and claim activity by covered entity.

From the Submission Receipt, you can also download the submitted claims, including the ESP ID assigned to each processed claim, or save a PDF copy of the receipt for your records.

Learn: To learn more about the new Submission Receipt, including how to interpret submission metrics, review Conforming and Non-Conforming claims, investigate validation issues and warnings, and explore submission results by covered entity and manufacturer, see New Submission Experience: Submission Receipt.
